Every employer wants to find the right type of employees, but often, this is a task that is easier said than done. When conducting interviews, you naturally need to weed out the employees who won’t be a good fit, but there are some lackluster employees who can put up a good front. If you don’t want to be fooled by such candidates, try looking for the following red flags during your next interview.

No Knowledge About Your Company

Would you want to hire an employee who is never prepared? Before coming to an interview, candidates should take the time to research your company and learn basic facts about the position they are applying for. If a person does not know about the history of your company, the products or services it offers or the challenges it faces, it may be time to consider hiring someone else.

Obsessed With Salary

Have you ever interviewed a candidate who was too hung up on money? Of course, everyone goes to work to earn a living, but you don’t want to hire employees who are only showing up for a paycheck. Ideally, your company needs workers who are passionate about what they do and willing to give their all. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t discuss salary at some point during the interview, but if a candidate only talks about salary, you may want to go in another direction.

Unverifiable Information

Interviews are great, but you must be able to verify certain pieces of information on an employee’s resume before you can hire them. At some point, you will need to verify the following details:

  • The candidate’s work history
  • Feedback from former supervisors or managers
  • Educational background

If a candidate doesn’t give you the means to verify this information, such as phone numbers or email addresses, you may be dealing with someone who is providing false information.
