5 Three-Word Pep Talks For Every Interview

The year 2017 is barely cracked open, and it seems to be the Year of the Mantra. We at Aventure Staffing know the power of short sentences, especially when they can change the course of your life. Here are five three-word phrases that can help you tackle not only your next interview but also everything you’ve always wanted.

Know your stuff.

This little three-word gem breaks down two ways. Know your STUFF and know YOUR stuff. This means you know what you’re getting yourself into when it comes to the job you are applying for (including relevant notes about the company, what’s needed to do the job properly, and how you can add to the team). It also means you have given meaningful consideration to how you thrive as a person, a co-worker, and an employee. Remember, the interview isn’t just about making sure you are a right fit for the company, it’s also about making sure that company is the right fit for you.

Wear good shoes.

You know you need to “dress to impress” in an interview setting, but it’s the little things that will set you apart. In this case, your shoes have a pivotal role in your wardrobe. On one hand (or foot?), shoes are the perfect accessory to showcase your unique style. On the other, good shoes form the foundation for every step toward your goals, including those important ones you take as you walk into the interview. And if you’re going to kick your career into gear, why not wear shoes that are up to the job?

Confidence is contagious.

Another reason why shoes matter: because confidence matters. If you don’t have a natural self-confidence, or if you struggle with interviews, or if you’re not *quite* qualified for the position you are applying for, remember this: Confidence is contagious. Once you’ve convinced yourself that you can do the job, it becomes a much easier task of convincing the one hiring to do the same.

Embrace the afterthought.

Why is it we always think of the best answers to interview questions after the interview? That post-meeting light bulb is pretty universal, so why not make the most of it? Flesh out your improved answer to one of the questions in your thank you note (because noting your appreciation should never be an afterthought). You’ll finish as a strong candidate, and you’ll feel better knowing you gave it all you had.

Keep getting better.

Didn’t get the call-back you wanted from your dream job? Are you having trouble finding the perfect fit? Don’t give up. “You either get bitter, or you get better,” says Josh Shipp, advocate and speaker. “It’s that simple. You either take what has been dealt to you and allow it to make you a better person, or you allow it to tear you down. The choice does not belong to fate. It belongs to you.”

These are just a few of the phrases we’ve been known to toss around the office, which happens between “Let’s get started” and “You got the job!” When you’re ready to find your next career—or your next candidate, we’re here to help 2017 be your best year yet.
