Community Spotlight: Humboldt

Humboldt, Iowa

Home to 4,690 residents, Humboldt may not be the largest town we serve, but it certainly is one of the most progressive and pro-development. Originally named Springvale, Humboldt was later named for the German explorer and naturalist Alexander von Humboldt. This name change is notable, as it seems to have set the tone for how the town embraces outdoor living, a strong sense of community, and willingness to adapt.

Featuring a parks program that includes community garden plots, sports complexes, youth leagues, walking groups, and one dozen local parks, Humboldt is a flurry of activity at nearly every time of day. The Humboldt Family Aquatic Center is the pride of the town (and the envy of nearly every other community). The sense of community carries through to the city compost pile, where residents can add and take as needed for their own gardens.
